What is Gua Sha?

What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha meaning ‘coining’, ‘skin-scraping’, or ‘pressured-stroking’, is a technique originating from Traditional Asian medicine. ‘Gua’ refers to the tool used to assist in the skin scraping on a lubricated body surface, and ‘Sha’ refers to the small red dots that appear on the skin called petechiae.

It has been used for centuries to help conditions that create blood stasis, pain management, and reduce inflammation. Gua Sha can be used on the body or the face. If searching for therapeutic benefits of Gua Sha we recommend reaching out to a preferred skilled practitioner. Otherwise, you can perform Gua Sha at home while still benefiting from the effects in a more comforting manner using a few favorite LOOK Organic’s products.

Using the stone tool, Bian Stone, and a facial oil Bioactive Complex apply the oil to the face or body on dry skin and begin applying light unidirectional strokes repeatedly 3 to 5 times. Working your way towards other areas of the body.

If performing facial Gua Sha, start at the base of the neck and move towards the jawline to support the flow of the lymphatic system. Working your way across the face using light pressure strokes outward.

Note: Avoid any active breakout areas on the face.

Gua Sha helps:

  • Increase circulation
  • Support lymphatic drainage
  • Reduce puffiness
  • Breakdown scar tissue
  • Release muscle tension
  • Relieve muscle and joint pain
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face
  • Tightens and contours the skin
